Garnet Double Strand Set

18" Double Strand Garnet Necklace

You will be constructing two separate strands and joining them together once each has been strung.  The shorter strand is 15", the longer is 18".

This supply list and instructions are for the necklace only.  Click here for bracelet details, and here for earring details.

Supply List

188  3mm round garnet beads (there are approximately 136 beads of this size in one 16" bead strand as sold in most bead stores)

28  5mm round garnet beads

3  8x5mm decorative silver beads

2  5mm silver spacer beads

1 3/4" chain

2  silver splitrings

2  silver head pins

1  decorative silver drop (mine is 18mm)

1  springring clasp

2  silver crimp beads

Approximately 38" of wire (like Soft Flex or Acculon)

Approximately 4" 22 gauge silver wire

Step One - 15" Strand

You will need approximately 17-18" of wire for this strand.  This is a very simple step - string 110 of the 3mm round garnet beads.  You are already finished with this strand!

Step Two - 18" Strand

Using the remaining wire, string in the following order:

 35 - 3mm round garnet beads

1 - 8x5mm decorative silver bead

14 - 5mm round garnet beads

1 - 18mm decorative bead - suspended from 1 headpin (see directions below for creating a drop with a headpin).  Repeat list in reverse order.

 Step Three

Feed one end of each strand into the following:

1 - 3mm round garnet bead

1- 5mm silver spacer

1 - 3mm round garnet bead

1 - crimp bead

1 - silver splitring

Fold both strands back into the crimp bead and crimp.  Repeat on opposite end.

 Step Four

You will need to wire wrap 3 - 3mm round garnet beads onto a small amount of 22 gauge silver wire for this step.  Please see my January 2003 Tip of the Month to learn about Wire Wrapping.  Before you start, please be aware that you will need to join each of these wrapped beads to other components.  For the each, join one looped end to each of the splitrings on either end of the necklace.  Then, on one of these two, loop the clasp in to complete that end.  For the other, loop approximately 3/4" of the chain into the loop.

Create another wire wrapped section with a 3mm round garnet bead.  Connect this to the end of the chain you just added to the necklace.  To the opposite loop, add another 3/4" of chain.  At the end of the chain, string the last 3mm round garnet bead and the last 8x5mm decorative silver bead onto a headpin and wire wrap the end onto the chain to complete.
