Asian Inspired Necklace

This pattern makes a necklace approximately 16" long.

Supply List

1 Clasp

6 Crimp Beads

Approximately 18"- 19" of stringing wire (I like 21 strand wire)

Enough gold wire to wire wrap a bale around Chinese coins, or a jump ring large enough to accommodate

1+ Chinese coins

12 - 6x3mm antique gold finish tubes

4 - 5mm antique gold heishi spacer beads

6 - 3mm round gold beads

82 - 6/0 matte black beads

4 - 10mm antique gold connectors

Step One

Begin by stringing beads in the following order:

1 - 3mm round gold bead

1 - 5mm antique gold heishi spacer bead

19 - 6/0 matte black beads

1 - 3mm round gold bead

4 - 6/0 matte black beads

1 - 5mm antique gold heishi spacer bead

4 - 6/0 matte black beads

1 - 3mm round gold bead

4 - 6/0 matte black beads

1 - 6x3mm antique gold finish tube

1 - 6/0 matte black bead

1 - 6x3mm antique gold finish tube

2 - 6/0 matte black beads

1 - 6x3mm antique gold finish tube

1 - 6/0 matte black bead

1 - gold crimp bead

1 - 10mm antique gold connector

Step Two

At this point you will need to crimp off the first section of the necklace.   Tuck the end of the wire back into the crimp bead and crimp.

Step Three

Clip the wire at the other end, add a crimp bead and the clasp, and crimp.  You will now have the first of three necklace sections complete.

Step Four

Repeat Step One through Three to complete the second of the three necklace sections.

Step Five

Depending on what type and how many coins you have, your bale will probably be different than mine, but here's a basic explanation of how to create a bale.  Using approximately 3" - 4" of straightened gold wire, string through the hole in the coin(s).  Bend the wire in half.  Leaving approximately 4mm gold wire length at the top of the coin, bend one tail of the gold wire at a 90-degree angle, then make a loop (like you would when making earring loops at the top of headpins).  Cut the non-looped wire flush with the bottom of the loop.  Begin to wire wrap the long gold wire end around both wires, keeping each successive loop close to the last.  Continue this until you reach the length you desire, or to the top of the coin, snip the end.

Step Six

You will now complete the third and final segment of the necklace.  String the following:

1 - 6/0 matte black bead

1 - 6x3mm antique gold finish tube

2 - 6/0 matte black beads

1 - 6x3mm antique gold finish tube

1 - 6/0 matte black bead

1 - 6x3mm antique gold finish tube

2 - 6/0 matte black beads

String bale with coins onto the wire and repeat Step Six bead list in reverse.

Step Seven

Add:

1 - gold crimp bead

Using one of the completed necklace sections, string connector bead onto wire.  Tuck the end of the wire back into the crimp bead and crimp.  Repeat on other end of wire to complete the necklace.
